The gymnasium buzzed with excitement as fans filled the bleachers, waving banners and cheering for their teams. Players from both sides warmed up on the court, their faces filled with focus and determination. Everyone knew this is not just another match, but a battle for pride and victory.
The match started strong with the SJS taking the lead 25-19 with their strong spikes and flawless defenses. But the SMA made a comeback at the second set 23-25 taking advantage of the opponent’s errors. Even though SMA Jin Rivas sprained his ankle after a fatal fall.
But despite the heavy rains and thunderstorm caused by typhoon Maring the SJS refused to back down and regained their footing in the following set. Earning them the 25-20 in the third set.
In the last set the game was intense with each team’s crowd cheered and chanting. SJS red and white clad mascot dancing in front of SJS contingent the SMA crowd prayed that their team would win so that a fifth set would be a match off.
Each team poured all their skills in the game defending each strike of the opponents and spiking with their swollen hands. But through their hardships SJS secured the winning spots and celebrates victory with their crowd.
With the unity of both players Jerome Arbis the spiker and Noil Cruz the setter they manage to aim 17 points on the last quarter. Every set of Noil Cruz carried the determination for their team to win and with the help of Jerome Arbis the triumph was acquire.
“My boys are pumped up from their victory over the Saint Joseph Institute tossers. This is a good start as we are gunning for the championship like our basketball varsity posting a 6-0 winning streak,” said SJS coach Rody Santos.
With this victory, the Saint John School improved their standing and will advanced to the next round of the tournament, hoping to continue their winning streak.
